Meta Nitro Chloro Benzene
Meta Nitro Chloro Benzene (MNCB), also known as
3-Nitrochlorobenzene, is an aromatic nitro compound with the molecular formula
C₆H₄ClNO₂ and CAS No. 121-73-3. It appears as a light yellow to brown liquid or
crystalline solid, depending on purity and temperature. MNCB is a key
intermediate in the manufacture of dyes, pigments, agrochemicals, and
pharmaceuticals. It is primarily used in the synthesis of meta-amino
chlorobenzene, which serves as a building block for azo dyes and rubber
chemicals. Produced via nitration of chlorobenzene under controlled conditions,
MNCB offers high purity (≥99.5%) and consistent performance in downstream
reactions. It is soluble in alcohol and ether, but insoluble in water. Indian
manufacturers supply MNCB in bulk quantities using ISO tanks or MS drums, with
strict adherence to safety and environmental standards. Its stability,
reactivity, and compatibility with electrophilic substitution make it a preferred
choice for chemical formulators across industries.
